We read that they are a large expanse of volcanically heated tide pools that were known to be an interesting snorkel. Man was that an understatement!! This half day we spent at the tide pools turned out to be one of my favorite memories from our travels!! We were dazzled by a vibrant array of corral and fish species. Most of which we had not seen yet in our many snorkel outings in the islands. Please enjoy this underwater treat in our pictures.
What an amazingly breath-taking experience. Each pool was a stunning punchbowl full of life. The pictures do not do it justice. Sadly, though, much of it was not as pristine as what you see here. Many people do not care for our reefs and planet like they should. I think we all agree that doing our small part to preserve beautiful places like this is a small price to pay in return for our planet's wonders. Sometimes it's as simple as not standing on the reef.
After several hours of exploring the pools by the reef, we decided to warm up in the warm volcanically heated pools!
We finished the day by heading out to the eastern most point of Hawaii where the air is told to be the purest air in the world!
