The Deadliest Catch

This past week, my Grandparents came to the coast for a visit. They brought along their 34 foot motor home with boat in tow. What is there to do with a boat on the coast??? CRAB!

Tyrell & Grandpa went out 3 times in total. Once with Uncle John, once by themselves and once with Grandma and I.

By the time Grandma and I decided to join them, the bait (moldy fish heads) was REALLY smelly.

First, you attach the bait to the crab ring. Then drop the ring into a section of the bay.

After 10 minutes or so, you pull up the pots and see what you have caught. (sorry the movie is sideways!)

Every once in a while, you catch a keeper which has to be male and 5 and 3/4 inches wide.

And occasionally, you pull up the monster... the Deadliest Catch...

Once you've caught your limit, you can take the crabs home to boil them and clean them, or bring them to a Marina.

The crab are put into big, boiling pots where they cook for 16 minutes.

They are then cooled.

And then the fun begins... Pull off the shells, rip out the gills and guts (YUCK!) and rinse them off.

We caught 35 crab total! WOW!!! "We're eating crab tonight!!!" (and for the rest of the week)

Only one casualty occurred... Grandpa dropped his glasses in the ocean. Luckily, Grandma had a spare pair:)
